is god scared?

God apparently can't handle our anger. His spine is obviously too weak for our rage. He no doubt squirms when we scream with anguish. Or perhaps I have it all wrong. Maybe he frowns and points an angry finger our way when our feelings are out of control. Either way, he seems like a God who's not too keen on doubts and fears and and uncomfortable questions. There must be truth in all this. If that were not so, then couldn't we be more honest with him?

a god with weak knees

Maybe our theology of grace is weak because we have trouble getting our head around an all-powerful God who could act graciously. Sovereignty we can handle. It's a powerful idea about a powerful God. We've also got God's holiness down pretty good. It, too, lets God be strong and powerful. Yes, both of these ideas are pretty easy to believe in. They both show that God is big and in control. But what we can't handle is the idea of grace existing in such a powerful Being. A God of grace is a wimpy God. He lets go of anger, he extends forgiveness. This God with weak knees even changes his mind and lets the wicked people of Nineveh live.
